Here are 2 easy recipes for Homemade laundry Softener!

This first one is an easy recipe for Homemade Fabric Softener using baking powder and hair conditioner. It works just as well as commercial fabric softeners but a third of the cost! You’re clothes and family will not know the difference with softness or static control. If you prefer the scent to be more obvious you can add essential oils as they are natural and will not cause adverse effects on skin or lungs as many artificial fragrances do.

Ingredients:
  • 1 Gallon Container
  • 1 large bowl
  • Hand blender or blender
  • 1 new small container hair conditioner ~ 16 ounces -fragrance free if possible
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda-optional *
  • 25 drops of essential oil *Optional

Recipe:
  • Add the container of conditioner to the gallon container
  • Add the Baking soda-optional*
  •  Optional * Add 25 drops of any scent of essential oils
  • Add water to fill with a 3″ space from lid
  • Now you have a measured amount of Softener
  • Pour contents into a large bowl and blend for a few minutes
  • Pour back into the gallon jug using a funnel and ladle to avoid spillage
  • You final product is ready!

If you have an existing container of fabric softener just pour directly into that. These days it really helps to save money and this is one great way to add money back into your budget each month. The other added benefit is that you are avoiding harmful artificial fragrances to enter through your skin which go directly into your blood stream. I’ve been using this for decades and love it!

The next recipe is even easier with removing the Baking soda from ingredients.
  • Take (2)  1/2 gallon containers or large mason jars (8 cups each) and fill each with half a container of hair conditioner.
  • Add 7 cups of water to each and shake to blend.
  • You now have a gallon of laundry fabric softener for under a $1.00 that works fabulously.
  • Optionally you may add 10 drops of essential oils for natural scent.

This is yet another great post!! I really appreciate that you included posts on both laundry detergent AND fabric softener. Seems like a healthy and cost efficient alternative to traditional fabric softener.
